The Sea Captain Remote Satellite Terminal by BEAM provides voice, data, and messaging services through the Iridium network. A standard RJ-11 phone (not included) can be used with this system. Data at 2400 bps is supported using an RS-232 serial port. This port can be effectively used for e-mail with free software from
Outfitter Satellite. An intelligent handset is included to provide a directly connected phone with the Sea Captain terminal. The handset has a built in ring alert, and supports voice and SMS services. An LED display indicates the status of power, satellite signal strength, ongoing call status, and message waiting. The BEAM Sea Captain is an Iridium terminal that only offers 2400 bps
internet access. An alternative marine satellite terminal to consider
if you need high speed internet is the Skipper 150 FleetBroadband terminal.
