Globalstar Announces Launch Schedule for its Second Generation Satellites
Globalstar Second Generation Satellite Launches Scheduled
On February 16, 2009, Outfitter Satellite received a notification from Globalstar: "Globalstar is pleased to inform you that the first launch date for our second generation constellation satellites is on track for Fall 2009. At that time, six new satellites will be launched, with another six to follow approximately 90 days later. In total, Globalstar is scheduled to launch 24 new satellites in the next 15 months."
The current expectation is that service quality should begin improving in early 2010.
On March 26, 2009, it was announced that Globalstar received $574 million in financing to be used to purchase and launch the second generation satellites being built by Thales Alenia Space amongst other costs. The funds will be supplied by major French banks.
