Iridium Phone Becomes Essential In An Emergency

We had no idea that the water was already going around the dam... This was going to get out so I figured I would own up to it. Last week it rained in Mexico. We only lost three cars, no one was injured. The [Iridium] Satellite phone was essential.

Trucks are things. Things can be replaced. We just built a lake and had no idea that the water was already going around the dam. It hit right when we started to leave the ranch.

Iridium phones also saved me in Mongolia about 10 years ago while hunting Sheep. We rolled a vehicle and had to airlift out. Luckily the man was not killed.

WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM AN IRIDIUM 9555? Iridium 9555 and 9505A series phones provide extremely economical voice and 2400 bps data/internet access coverage worldwide. The satellite antenna needs to have a direct line-of-site with an Iridium satellite to perform properly and is intended for outside use only. Special compression software is included with our Iridium data kit that improves effective speed on text communication to as high as 10,000 bps. This software also allows continuity of an internet access session in the event that signal is temporarily lost (which appears as multiple contiguous calls in your call log detail for a single internet access session). A universal AC charger with international plug set and a 12 VDC "cigarette lighter" charger are included. Additional batteries and/or the usage rates quoted represent the entire cost of a call (except taxes and government imposed fees) for all calls to public-switched telephone numbers while using a rental Iridium satellite phone; special types of calling such as calls to other types of satellite phones can be higher. Inbound calls to an Iridium satellite phone may be made directly or via two-stage dialing through a U.S. 480 area code number; two-stage dialing calls are charged at a slightly higher rate.
