Globalstar Satellite Communications Globalstar offers voice, data, and short message reception. Globalstar announced technical problems in 2007 and subsequently has had reduced quality of service. In October of 2010, it began launching the first 6 of its 24 new second generation satellites. If the launches are successful, Globalstar service should begin to improve significantly during 2011. Globalstar uses "bent pipe" signal routing so that if one of its Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites orbiting 878 miles above the earth can simultaneously see you and a Globalstar gateway, the call can be routed. Globalstar satellite phones with a Texas, Florida, or Alaska area code are available. The newest and smallest mobile handset is the GSP-1700 by Qualcomm which weighs just over 7 oz. (see right top). Optional accessories include docking stations for your car or boat, with varying cable lengths to allow for positioning of your external Globalstar antenna. Several Globalstar phone models allow for traditional analog phone or PBX connections. PROMOTIONS: Call us for special promotions that are currently available on Globalstar products and services.
